Dafydd and Nirosha's intimate wedding flowers inspiration
Since Covid has become a part of our lives all large-scale gatherings have been non-existent. Because of this some people have altered their wedding plans and we have seen the development of the ‘micro wedding’, a smaller, more intimate wedding celebration for your nearest and dearest. This is exactly what Dafydd and Nirosha decided to do back in September last year. Although small in scale their intimate wedding flowers were full of beautiful, meaningful touches.
Like many of my couples over the last few months I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Dafydd and Nirosha face to face. All the planning was done by email, WhatsApp and phone calls; rather than being uncommon, this is the new normal. What was unusual for this wedding was that they were married in London and I am based in Cardiff. Dafydd’s family knew of my work and so recommended me for their intimate wedding. The morning of the wedding I delivered the flowers (carefully packed and boxed up) to his brother, who then drove down to London. I prayed to the flower gods that they would find their way safely to the couple. As you will see from the images, they arrived safe and well.
Intimate wedding flowers bridal bouquets
Nirosha’s bridal bouquet had to be carefully constructed because of her allergies. I chose a variety of low-allergen flowers including eustoma, scabiosa, white naomi roses, avalanche roses, revival sweet roses, seductive roses, white yo-yo spray roses, protea blushing bride, double lilies and a succulent plant.
Nirosha wanted to include a lotus flower, which is traditionally symbolic in Sri Lanka. I was unable to source a fresh flower so I used a silk Lotus flower, which had to be imported from Germany. I ensured it was nestled in between the double lilies and I was really pleased with the result. It certainly fooled Nirosha’s Mother, apparently, she kept it in a vase of water to keep it fresh.
The colour palette I used was based around ivory with small touches of pink and grey. This look will always be timeless, romantic, elegant and stylish. It was perfectly suited to their intimate wedding day. Dafydd and Nirosha planned their intimate wedding flowers last minute, time was not on their side so they entrusted the flower decisions to me. After seeing images of the dresses, I decided that compact, petite bouquets were required, different to my usual loose, natural style. Although my love of texture was evident in the different varieties of flowers. I thoroughly enjoyed creating these beautiful intimate wedding flowers. Hope you like them too.
