Five questions to ask your professional South Wales wedding florist

Congratulations on your engagement! You’ve just made the first steps towards wedding planning and your wedding day is, of course, an exciting event for you both. If you are reading this, it goes without saying, that gorgeous flowers are an essential part of your day, which is where I come in, to provide you my floral expertise.

Selecting the perfect florist is crucial for ensuring your day blooms with beauty. Asking the right questions can help you gauge their expertise, understand their style, and ensure they can bring your floral vision to life.

When searching for your ideal wedding florist who will bring your visions into reality there are quite a few things that you need to consider - so let me give you some pointers that could help make your decision easier when selecting THE professional South Wales wedding florist for the job!

Here are five essential questions (actually there are six questions but it wasn’t as catchy a title) to ask your florist:

What is your design style and experience in the wedding florist industry?

Understanding your florist's design aesthetic is key to ensuring they align with your vision. Whether you prefer romantic, minimalist, or whimsical arrangements, knowing their style can help you determine if they're the right fit for your event.

With nearly two decades of experience running my own Cardiff wedding floral business, I've had the pleasure of working with more than 425 couples to bring their floral visions to life. My journey in the industry began when I created the flowers for my own wedding day, (you can find out more about me here) and since then, I've honed my skills and refined my style.

When it comes to floral design I have a preferred style. I specialise in creating elegant, organic, seasonal arrangements that capture the beauty of nature. Whether it's soft pastel hues or rich jewel tones, I love playing with colour schemes to create the perfect atmosphere for each unique wedding. With my extensive knowledge of floral varieties and arrangements, you can be confident in my ability to bring your wedding day dreams to reality.

Can you work within my budget?

Clearly stating how much you ideally want to spend is essential for both you and me. Ten percent of your entire budget is a good starting point to put aside for your wedding flowers but you must be honest with your florist from the start. Personally I have a minimum spend of £1000 on all my weddings, some florists ask for more, some ask for none. A good florist will tell you where you flower budget should focus. With so many years of experience I can offer cost-saving tips and flower alternatives without compromising quality.

I have a wealth of knowledge and design experience which you can utilize to create the perfect scene for your day.

How far in advance should I book my wedding florist?

Finding the perfect florist for your wedding should not feel overwhelming, my job is to make you feel at ease and listened to. One thing to note is that we can get booked up quickly. To ensure that you have access to the best selection of flowers and highly experienced florists for your wedding, it's best to plan ahead. I recommend booking your wedding florist approximately 6-12 months in advance.

I only work on a set number of exclusive weddings each year and I choose to work with only one couple a day, meaning I can provide the highest quality service to my couples. 6-12 months gives us ample time to get to know each other so I can understand your vision and bring it to life.

As I can only be in one place at a time, key summer dates can get booked up fast. This is not to pressure you. The important thing is to secure the date with my small booking fee. Don’t worry if you do not have everything decided, we can tweak and rework the details throughout the year.

What other services do you offer besides flower arrangements?

If your florist has a catalogue of items you can use at your wedding then this will save you money.

At Petal Power, my services go far beyond beautiful flower arrangements. I offer a range of options to make your planning process even easier. Need vases for your table centres? No problem – I provide vase hire so you don't have to worry about sourcing them yourself. Looking to add some ambiance with beautiful candlesticks? Yes, I have a choice of candlesticks available for hire. I hold a wide range of props from footed bowls through to bud vases, candlesticks, votives, place settings and can recommend further suppliers to help with styling such as linen. I also offer design consultation services, delivery services and setup/breakdown services as part of my contract so no need to drop items back to me after your wedding. I am here to help make your event stunning and importantly stress free.

Can you provide a portfolio or references?

Reviewing a florist's portfolio or speaking with past clients will offer invaluable insights into their workmanship, reliability, and professionalism. Do they have actual wedding experience or is the only work they are advertising from photo shoots? Are you comfortable with being the first real wedding of their career? Everyone needs to start somewhere but you should be informed.

Requesting references or viewing photos of previous projects can help you gauge their skill level and creativity. Do they have a website with past weddings that you can view? Don’t forget to ask if the images are from real weddings or a photo shoot and beware of AI generated images. This should play a vital part in your decision making.

Rest assured everything image I post is my own floristry work, made by my own hands.

Many of my couples are kind enough to have taken the time to leave me a review. This is a true testament to the relationship I build with each of them. You can see some of these below.

Will you be there on my wedding day itself to set up and oversea everything?

Absolutely, I will be there! Your wedding day is extremely special and you deserve to have everything run smoothly without having to worry about the details.

Other florists do not work in the same way. Some book many weddings on a single day and work with a team of florists. This means that you might not see the same florist you met with at your consultation.

That's why I choose to only book one wedding a day. I personally deliver the flowers on your wedding day to ensure that everything is set up the way you want it. I'll oversee every aspect of the flowers throughout the whole wedding day, making sure it's perfect. And before you walk down the aisle, I'll be there to hand you your bouquet and ensure that you feel beautiful and confident in knowing how best to hold your bouquet. Trust me to take care of the floral details so you can focus on the most important thing- enjoying your special day.
