Colourful wedding flowers with Ellis and Chris
Some weddings just suit you. You meet the couple; or the bride and her Mum come over. or in this case the bride, the Mum and her best friend. (Definitely pre-Covid times) And you just click. You just understand what they want and they trust you to deliver. I was lucky enough to play a part in a wedding like this. It was full of the most beautiful colourful wedding flowers. El and Chris were married in the local church and then the reception was held in a marquee on the family’s grounds.
Ellis entrusted her best friend Nia with a lot of the wedding planning. It was Nia that found me on Instagram and first contacted me. When we met, El and of course Nia had the most amazing ideas for her flowers. Natural looking, colourful wedding flowers, full of seasonal blooms throughout the entire wedding. A huge bouquet, one that was almost too big to hold was a must have for the bridal bouquet.
These photos from Natalie at Fox Photography are just wonderful, as you will see. The colours and the atmosphere of the day are beautifully captured. Happy Wedding Day lovely people, it was an absolute pleasure working with you on your big day.
Bridal bouquet of colourful wedding flowers
Ellis wanted to carry a large, loose bouquets of seasonal blooms, full of texture and colour. Perfect for her summer wedding day. I used blue agapanthus, pink celosia, scabiosa purple scoop, spikey blue echinops, delphinium, rudbeckia and sedum. There were lots of roses in El’s bouquet: confidential, ascot, black bacarra, deep purple and red naomi roses and happy piano spray roses. I used some grasses that she supplied from her parent’s land and lots of eucalyptus. It was perfect for Ellis and suited her traditional wedding dress, a modern bouquet with a formal dress.
Her bridesmaids wore different style dresses in beautiful jewelled green tones and carried simple bouquets of hydrangea picked from the family garden. The bridesmaids wore sprigs of eucalyptus in their hair in-keeping with the bridal bouquet.
The buttonholes comprised of small bunches of echinops, sedum, rosemary and greenery tied with twine. They were so effective.
Floral arch full of colourful wedding flowers
Ellis and Chris were married in the most charming church near to the family home, Michael's Church, Michaelston-y-Fedw
The entrance to the beautiful church was decorated with this huge, pillar of colourful wedding flowers. It was designed to look natural, as though it had grown out of the ground and attached itself to the stone wall. As you can see it was bursting with flowers and was the perfect floral introduction for the guests to this beautiful summer wedding.
This pillar was created on a frame without the use of floral foam #nofloralfoam For the more delicate flowers I used flower picks so they had a water source. This pillar was made to be movable so that it could be transported back to the marquee for the reception. Apparently, the ushers transported it on the back of a trailer and tractor, I wish I had seen that.
Church ceremony full of colourful wedding flowers
The aisles of the church were adorned with narrow, tall flower displays created to look like slices of wild meadows. Again, I used a variety of flowers in all shapes and colours. They had to be narrow in design so that Ellis could fit down the aisle in her beautiful wide skirted dress.
For the wedding vows Ellis and Chris were with these large overflowing, wild designs full of flowers in these simple urns. Again, #nofloralfoam was used.
All these flowers were transported to the reception to line the top table and be used on the tables.
The family decorated the marquee ready for the reception. They planted these little succulent plants as the wedding favours. The table place settings were finished with these beautiful details of acrylic place names and a sprig of eucalyptus.
It was such an honour to create the colourful wedding flowers for this stunning summer wedding. Thank you to Ellis and Chris (and Nia) for letting me be a part of it.
A huge shout out to Natalie at Fox Photography for these wonderful images. You have captured the atmosphere of the day beautifully. There were so many to choose from.
